"The cosmetic industry in India is, at present, at a standstill apart from personal care—mostly hygiene products and sanitizers ... Those fall under the essential category," said Renuka Thergaonkar, Ph.D., president of the Indian SCC and consultant, R&D Global Consultants. "The rest of the industry is at a hold."

She added most cosmetic R&D colleagues have been working from home, during the then-45-day lockdown (which is currently projected until May 17), although productivity has been hampered. Meetings have been happening digitally between the government and associations, and new policies are being made; so the time is being utilized. Companies also are creating and starting new concepts, such as changing their manufacturing scenarios.
