Ashland principal scientist, Roger L. McMullen, Ph.D., has been awarded the U.S. Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) highest honor for exceptional technical contributions to the cosmetic industry.

The honor is named after the founder of the SCC and recognizes an individual for accomplishments in activity supporting the best interests of the cosmetic industry through technical contributions.

The Maison G. deNavarre medal award recognizes McMullen’s more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and select textbooks, founding and editing the online magazine The Cosmetic Chemist, presenting at 11 SCC annual scientific meetings, nine TRI applied hair research conferences, five DWI hair conferences and five NYSCC symposia.
McMullen will receive his award during the SCC’s 77th annual scientific meeting on Dec. 12 during the president's luncheon and business meeting at Sheraton NY Times Square.
"It is such a great honor to receive this award from the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC)," McMullen responded to receiving the award. "Receiving this award is less about me and more about the those who have supported me over the years on my journey in the world of cosmetic science.
"A number of people have had a great influence on me and include my colleagues, peers, and friends at Ashland, Inc. as well as many of the volunteers in the SCC. The Textile Research Institute in Princeton has also been a great support network for me over the years. ... Becoming a part of the SCC community has been one of the greatest turning points in my life. I am so proud to be a part of the SCC and receive this award utmost enthusiasm."
