PF_Podcast_McHugh_850x425

Throughout perfume's long history, certain ingredients have been cherished not only for its aroma but for its use in cultural and religious practices. To discuss sandalwood’s role in Indian culture, Perfumer & Flavorist sat down with James McHugh, associate professor of religion at the University of Southern California.

"It's not just a nice fragrant wood... It was an all-around precious substance like jade in China," said McHugh. "Sandalwood was metaphysically cooling - literally, medicinally and spiritually. "

In the latest episode of Two Sense, sponsored by Quintis Sandalwood, we discussed:

  • sandalwood’s importance in pre-modern Indian,
  • the ingredients use in spiritual and religious practices,
  • the history of perfume in Indian and abroad,
  • and much more.

Make sure to also check out McHugh's article in the August 2019 issue of Perfumer & Flavorist.
