The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) has announced the 2023 awardees and finalists for the SCC Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship.
Established in 2021 the scholarship awards $5,000 to two students of a specific under-represented minority of any gender identity pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemical, physical, medical, pharmaceutical, biological or related sciences and technology with an interest in pursuing a career in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
All awardees and finalists receive a financial support package to attend the SCC’s 77th annual scientific meeting and showcase in New York, where they will be recognized on-stage during the annual awards breakfast. Additionally, each will have the opportunity to present their research via poster in the showcase throughout the event.

The two individuals selected for the scholarship are Precious Ulel, an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine and Xylia Ajose, a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati.
Two finalists were also recognized, including Jada Alcantra, an undergraduate student at the University of Toledo and Destiny Durante, a graduate student at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
