We Lilac It A Lot: Meet the Color Taking Over for Millennial Pink

Pantone named Ultra Violet its color of the year for 2018. It's no surprise then that we're seeing variants on the that theme taking over beauty marketing and design. While pink may be worn on Wednesdays, lilac is hoping to stake a claim on the remaining days of the week.

For the past few years, millennial pink has adorned everything from home decor to product packaging to tasty treats from the local bakery. Now, lilac is having a moment and consumers, fashion designers and beauty editors are taking notice. In fact, Refinery29 has already dubbed it "The It-girl Hair Color."

In an article on HelloGiggles.com, Erika Woelfel, color expert for Behr Paint, was quoted saying "Lilac feels more grown-up than pink, and creates a welcoming and calm aura."

Beauty brands already loving lilac include:

  • Bumble and bumble: Bb. Color Stick in Lilac ($26);
  • Too Faced: Sketch Marker Liquid Art Eyeliner in Deep Lilac ($20);
  • Pretty Vulgar: Shimmering Swan Highlighter in Lilac Lust ($32);
  • Fenty Beauty: Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in One Of The Boyz ($18);
  • Nails Inc.: Holler-Graphic Nail Polish in Get Out of My Space ($11);
