Many cosmetic recalls in the U.S. relate to microbial contamination. A few years ago, the APU reported that ten in 35 (nearly one-third) of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recalls as of Dec. 4, 2019, were due to mold, yeast, fungal or bacterial contamination.
