The patented rheology modifier is naturally derived from tara gum obtained from the Tara Spinosa plant that grows in the Peruvian Andes. It is readily biodegradable, meaning it does not persist in the environment, and has a renewable carbon index (RCI) of 71%.
According to the company, the ingredient meets the need for naturally derived, biodegradable rheology modifiers whose abilities to influence texture, viscosity, formulation stability and overall sensory experience approach that of synthetics. Capable of stabilizing oils and pigments, Aristoflex Eco T can reportedly be used across a range of skin care applications and sun care products containing organic and mineral UV filters.
“With the launch of Plantasens Biogum Tara back in 2021, Clariant started the journey toward sustainable high performing rheology modifiers," said Michael Haspel, Clariant’s head of personal care and home care. "Aristoflex Eco T is our next step on this journey and unlocks new possibilities for formulators in creating sophisticated yet sustainable skin care products.”
